Air, water not ‘coupling? El Nino delayed
SOUTHLAND - (INT) ?Climatologist are backing down on their outlook for an El Nino this winter because the atmosphere has not shown clear evidence of ‘coupling?with the ocean.

Despite above-average ocean temperatures, recent months have reflected neutral conditions.

The Climate Prediction Center notes that late winter and early spring are the most favorable months for ‘coupling?and predict that a weak El Nino will emerge shortly.

“Significant global impacts are not anticipated the remainder of the winter,?according to the latest statement.
